How you do it

First you create a Carnival, usually Swimming or Athletics.

The carnival is based on:

A Lineage described here

Events      Event names are drawn from a list that you maintain - referred to as the Library of Events.  All of your events must be in this library.

Levels             Either Age Based or Year Level Based.  This is set in the Carnival Details for this Carnival, and you set the specific of Ages or Year Levels that may apply to your carnival

Students Usually imported into SportsTrak but can be manually entered

Competitors        These are students who have been placed into an event

A scoring system for awarding house and individual points

Records for events set in one carnival need to be seen by the following carnival of that type, usually the next year.

For this reason all related carnivals are grouped into a logical sequence referred to as a Lineage.

Thus Aths 25, Aths 26, Aths 27 will be in a single lineage; Swim 25, Swim 26,Swim 27 will be in another.

If you start afresh without any previous carnivals, you still need to first create a Lineage, say "Inter-house Athletics".  You might then create a  Carnival named "Aths 2025" in that Lineage.  A Lineage name is very general, without reference to years, whereas Carnival Names tend to be more specific.  Next year, for Aths 2026, you can create it by asking SportsTrak to copy it from Aths 2025.  This brings in the events, all other details like houses, ages, etc, but not students. But it includes records set in 2025.  You can then modify the program or other details of course.

If you run an inter-school program, it would require another Lineage to be defined, mainly because the Records are different to the Inter-house, but also because the program is likely structured differently.

You can choose to pre-enter students into events

There are several ways of doing this:

Assign students to a particular event

Assign events to a particular student

Import them from a text file

You run the carnival

You call up each event, assign placings and/or performances to competitors, and move on to the next event.  If competitors are not pre-entered, you look them up and add them.  That event is automatically scored when it is completed.  Scores to houses and individuals are updated.

After the carnival

A range of summaries are available.  Champions Report, Team Scores and a lot of others.
