On-Line Access

Some parts of SportsTrak 3000 use a server that CaRob Computing runs and pays for.  Access to that server is covered by an annual fee, separate from your SportsTrak licence.

What needs on-line access

Feature

Needs on-line access?

The SportsTrak 3000 App

Yes.  Uploading a carnival for the app, and downloading competitors or results from it, all require on-line access.

On-line backup

Yes.  Saving a backup to the server requires on-line access.

Restoring from an on-line backup

No.  You can always retrieve a backup you have already made, whether or not your on-line access is current.

Everything else in SportsTrak 3000 - setting up carnivals, entering competitors and results, scoring, records, reports and backups to your own disk - works exactly as normal and never needs a connection.

Your data is never held to ransom.  If your on-line access lapses you can still restore anything you previously backed up to the server.

What you get with each type of licence

Demonstration

No on-line access.  The app and on-line backup are not available.

Trial

Full on-line access for the length of the trial, so you can try the app and on-line backup before deciding.  When the trial period ends SportsTrak reverts to Demonstration mode and on-line access stops with it.

Full

On-line access until the On-Line Limit Date shown in your Registration window.  Renewing the annual fee moves that date forward.

Unpaid Subscription

Your SportsTrak licence itself does not expire.  Only the on-line features stop.

Checking where you stand

Open Registration from the File menu.  It shows your status - Demonstration, Trial or Full - and, for a full licence, your On-Line Limit Date.

During a trial, the main SportsTrak window title also counts down the days remaining.

Renewing

Renew through the CaRob Computing web site.  We will email you before your On-Line Limit Date is reached, so a renewal should never take you by surprise.

Once you have renewed, open Registration and click Check Status.  SportsTrak collects your new limit date from the server and restores on-line access straight away.

Renew before a carnival, not during one.

If access lapses part way through a carnival you are running on the app, you will not be able to download results that house masters have already uploaded until it is renewed.  Check your limit date when you plan the carnival, not on the morning.

How long carnival data stays on the server

The server is working space, not an archive.  Carnival data uploaded for the app is removed automatically a set time after it is uploaded, which is comfortably longer than it takes to organise and run a carnival.

Keep your own backups as usual - see Back up and Backing Up Everything Yourself.  On-line backup is a convenience, not a substitute for keeping copies of your own.
